Due to an increased demand for REAL ID drivers licenses and photo IDs, customers may experience longer wait times at our centers. Several services such as driver license and vehicle registration renewals, changes of address and more, are available online 24/7 at no additional cost.
Online Services
Some customers may experience difficulties when attempting to log in to our online services. Customers may be required to attempt logging in to the system more than once to gain access. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Road User Charge
As a result of a recent law change, PennDOT started collecting a Road User Charge fee for electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) vehicles on April 1, 2025. EV and PHEV owners will receive a notice by mail and must submit a check or money order to pay the fee within 30 days of the notice.
Overview
PennDOT Driver and Vehicle Services administers the state's 12.1 million vehicle registrations and 10.1 million driver's licenses and IDs. It also oversees programs such as REAL ID, motorcycle safety, and vehicle emission inspections.

New License Plates Coming in 2025

New license plates are coming in 2025! The new license plate showcases Pennsylvania as the birthplace of America. It features the Liberty Bell and the text, “Let Freedom Ring.”
You will be notified when the license plate is ready to order for the 2025 launch. We will provide you details on how to request one for your vehicle.
