Important Reminder for CDL Drivers
Commercial drivers, under the Motor Carrier Safety Improvement Act (MCSIA) requirement, you must provide the names of all states where
you have been licensed (either for commercial or non-commercial driving) within the past ten years. This is to be done at the time of
applying for initial issuance, renewing or transferring your commercial driver's license (CDL). Federal regulations require PennDOT to obtain
your driver history from each state and make it part of your Pennsylvania driver record.
PennDOT must adhere to these federal
requirements. Consequently, you will not be able to renew your Pennsylvania commercial driver's license unless you complete this licensing
requirement. Depending on the histories obtained from the other states, sanctions may be imposed.
To update your record via our
website, you will need your driver's license number, date of birth and last four digits of your social security number. All commercial
drivers must complete this information requirement in order to renew.
